The changes to the Software Engineering program are a reflection of our continuous improvement and are aligned with our commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience while promoting the well-being of our students. We are streamlining our curriculum to offer five courses per semester to provide the needed balance between academic rigor and mental wellness. This is accomplished by removing unnecessary courses and combining courses to reduce content overlap without compromising the quality of the program. The changes enhance the program and the student learning experience as follows:
The changes are removing courses or combining existing courses, and hence no financial/resource implications.
The curriculum changes and the five courses per semester will make the program more attractive to incoming students, so the changes may lead to increased enrolment.
The proposed changes should be implemented starting Fall 2024.
An established process of consultation is already in place at the Faculty which includes a program-level curriculum committee (PCC-Software Engineering) that has a student representative, department council, Engineering Curriculum Committee (ECC), and Faculty Council.
While designing software systems take into consideration principles of EDI, no specific considerations for the principles or EDI or Decolonization are included in this program change.
