    The proposed changes are:

    1. Move ELEE 2530U EE Math: Essentials and Apps from Year 2, Term 2 to Year 2, Term 1 of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering – Smart Grid specialization and the corresponding Engineering and Management program
    2. Remove MATH 2860U Differential Equations for Engineers from Year 2, Term 1 of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering – Smart Grid specialization and the corresponding Engineering and Management program
    3. Move Liberal Studies Elective from Year 3, Term 1 to Year 2, Term 2 of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering – Smart Grid specialization and the corresponding Engineering and Management program


    As a result of the above changes, the following course changes will be made:

    • ELEE 2210U Circuit analysis: change prerequisite MATH 2860U to ELEE 2530U
    • ELEE 2520U Fundamentals of Electromagnetics: change prerequisite MATH 2860U to ELEE 2530U
    • ENGR 2100U: Computational Engineering Applications: change prerequisite MATH 2860U to (MATH 2860U or ELEE 2530U)
    • ELEE 3110U Signals and Systems: remove prerequisite ELEE 2530U
    • ELEE 3240U Applications for Electromagnetics: remove prerequisite ELEE 2530U

  • Enhanced academic opportunities*

    The changes to the Electrical Engineering program are a reflection of our continuous improvement and are aligned with our commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience while promoting the well-being of our students. We are modifying our curriculum to reduce the workload, which offer five courses in Year 3, term 1 to provide the needed balance between academic rigor and mental wellness. This is accomplished by revising a course to focus on program-oriented essential topics to better serve the needs of upper-year courses, reducing content overlap by removing unnecessary courses without compromising the quality of the program.

    The changes enhance the program and the student learning experience as follows:

    • Quality over quantity: the focused curriculum will enhance the student engagement by providing more time to facilitate better understanding and applications of concepts leading to a more enriching educational experience.
    • Reduced mental load: The five courses per semester allow for a more manageable course load that contributes to reduced stress and anxiety levels leading to a more supportive and productive learning environment.
    Description of the ways in which the proposed change will enhance the program and/or academic opportunities for students.

    • Fall 2024 cohort and later: students will follow the new program map
    • Fall 2023 cohort and earlier: students will require ELEE 2530U as prerequisite for ELEE 3110U and ELEE 3250U. Students will take the Liberal Studies Elective in Year 3, Term 1.

    An established process of consultation is in place at the Faculty, including a program- level curriculum committee (PCC-Electrical Engineering) that has a student representative, department council, Engineering Curriculum Committee (ECC), and Faculty Council.
