The changes to the Electrical Engineering program are a reflection of our continuous improvement and are aligned with our commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience while promoting the well-being of our students. We are modifying our curriculum to reduce the workload, which offer five courses in Year 3, term 1 to provide the needed balance between academic rigor and mental wellness. This is accomplished by revising a course to focus on program-oriented essential topics to better serve the needs of upper-year courses, reducing content overlap by removing unnecessary courses without compromising the quality of the program. The changes enhance the program and the student learning experience as follows:
The changes are moving or removing existing courses, and hence no financial/resource implications.
The curriculum changes and reducing Year 3, Term 1 to the five courses will make the program more attractive to incoming students, so the changes may lead to increased enrolment.
The proposed changes should be implemented starting Fall 2025
Communications to students will be made via our FEAS Academic Advising Office.
Consultation is central to governance at Ontario Tech. Faculties are required to consult with all areas impacted by this change, and the home faculty dean is responsible for all consultation decisions in this section of the form. Note that any false statements related to consultation may require re-submission of proposals.
Examples:
Additional examples can be found in the Resources section of the CIQE website.
An established process of consultation is in place at the Faculty, including a program- level curriculum committee (PCC-Electrical Engineering) that has a student representative, department council, Engineering Curriculum Committee (ECC), and Faculty Council. For the Science courses, the Dean will consult with the Dean of Science.
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science (FEAS) is fully committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), including in all of its courses. For students who have accommodation needs, existing Student Accessibility Services (SAS) support will be available to students who require specific accommodations
For more information and guidance on incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion principles in curricula, please visit the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging resource section of the CIQE website.
