Currently, students in the Master of Engineering Management program are required to complete one to two courses from the Group B course list. However, with only three courses available in Group B, students have limited flexibility in selecting courses that align with their interests and academic plans. This lack of variety has also contributed to scheduling challenges, as course cancellations or repeated offerings of the same course have made it difficult for some students to complete their degree within the intended 12-month timeline.
To address these concerns, it is proposed that three new entrepreneurship-focused courses be added to the Group B list. Entrepreneurship is an area that is increasingly relevant to engineering industry and engineering management education. Expanding
Group B in this way will enhance student choice, improve scheduling flexibility, and strengthen the program’s appeal to prospective students. Additionally, the current structure of course selection across Groups A, B, C, and D has proven to be confusing for students. Under the course-based option, students must complete five Group A courses; one course each from Groups B, C, and D; and an additional two courses selected from Groups B, C, or D. This complexity makes it difficult to effectively track students’ progress toward program completion. To simplify the requirements and improve clarity, it is proposed that course-based students complete five courses from Group A, three courses
from Group B, and one course each from Groups C and D.
For students in the project option, it is proposed that they complete five courses from Group A and three courses from Group B, in addition to the project requirement. These changes will streamline the program structure and support more efficient academic planning and monitoring. This change also includes adding in the Mechatronics, MEng program to the list of Group D Engineering Elective courses, as this will provide additional engineering elective option for students in another engineering field of study.
The current course requirements are as follows:
MEngM Course-Based
• Five courses (15 credits) total from Group A
• One course (3 credits) from Group B
• One course (3 credits) from Group C
• One course (3 credits) from Group D
• Two course (6 credits) from Groups B, C or D
MEngM Project
• Five courses (15 credits) from Group A
• One course (3 credits) from Group B
• One course (3 credits) from Group C
• One course (3 credits) from Group D
• ENGR 5002G - MEng/MEngM Project (6 credits)
The proposed course requirements are as follows:
MEngM Course-Based
• Five courses (15 credits) total from Group A
• Three courses (9 credits) from Group B
• One course (3 credits) from Group C
• One course (3 credits) from Group D
MEngM Project
• Five courses (15 credits) from Group A
• Three courses (9 credits) from Group B
• ENGR 5002G - MEng/MEngM Project (6 credits)
