We are adding INDG/SCIE 2500U and INDG/POSC 3310U officially to the minor calendar copy since they make sense to the minor program. These courses have already been informally applicable to the minor via communication between the program director and FSSH academic advising. This calendar change is intended to formalize this.
The new course POSC 3304U is being simultaneously proposed and would be a valuable option for SUST minor students as it represents a collaboration with a well-funded environmental NGO.
Additional electives added of COMM 3350U, LBAT 2413U and LBAT 2414U that were new courses created last year.
If applicable, list new course codes, course titles and include hyperlinks to course proposals in Curriculog in the 'new courses' field below. To hyperlink, open a new window and search for the new course proposal in Curriculog. Copy the url from your web browser, return to this form and select the hyper link icon. Paste the url into the url field and save.

Note: If the program or shared core description does not import into the field below, it is captured in the calendar copy. In this case, do not add content to the program or shared core description field as it will import to the calendar.
Note: Program learning outcomes will not import from the calendar. If you are making changes to this field, please enter the current information now and make changes only after you have validated and launched the proposal.
If you do not have a recent version of your program’s learning outcomes, or would like to make a modification to them, please contact ciqe@ontariotechu.ca
Complete this section only if you are modifying a pathways program.
Two of these courses are already being counted toward the Sustainability Studies minor in practice. They do not yet appear in the calendar however. POSC 3304U is designed to be offered in collaboration with the NGO Common Earth, and thus offers an innovative community-collaborative opportunity.
None
All students who have taken these courses may use them toward their Sustainability Studies minor. This has already been in effect with the help of SSH Academic Advising, but minor changes did not make last year’s Academic Calendar cutoff date.
NA
Both INDG/SCIE 2500U and INDG/POSC 3310U are existing courses and have been used toward the minor with permissions with consultation with SSH Academic Advising. POSC 3304U has been discussed with the Dean and the POSC program committee, as well as consulting and external climate education organization “Common Earth” to perhaps participate in the design of the course.
The courses added to the minor are specifically designed to introduce concepts of equity, sustainability, and inclusion to students interested in environmental issues.
For more information on how Indigenous content is defined at Ontario Tech University and how to consult with the Indigenous Education Advisory Circle, please refer to the Protocol for Consultation with the Indigenous Education Advisory Circle.
The IEAC was consulted properly when the INDS/SCIE 2500U course and INDG/POSC 3310U courses were developed in 2022. It was discussed that they would be used as electives for the minor program. I do not believe that further consultation is required in this case. POSC 3304U is not designed with Indigenous content specifically in mind.
Instruction from IEAC on INDS/SCIE 2500U and INDG/POSC 3310U was focused course content and has been incorporated at the course design stage
Important note: it is imperative that you choose the correct routing path as it cannot be changed once a proposal has been launched. If you have made a routing error after launching the proposal, the proposal will be cancelled and a new proposal will be required. If you require assistance with routing, please contact ciqe@ontariotechu.ca.
Please note that changes to joint or collaborative programs do require approval at Faculty Council of each faculty involved in the program. You do not need to include other faculties in the routing, however, consultation with other faculties should be noted and any required approval by other Faculty Councils (and date of approval) should be noted in the comments section as approval is logged on the home Faculty Council step.
